Bhupalpally: Farmers staged a protest at the collectorate on Monday, demanding payment of the pending paddy bonus amount.
Around 70 farmers attended the Prajavani programme and entered into heated arguments with district Collector Rahul Sharma and other officials regarding the delay in the disbursement of the bonus payment.
They staged a sit-in protest in front of the Collector as a mark of protest. Even as the police intervened and attempted to escort them out, the farmers refused to call off their protest. They complained that the paddy bonus was yet to be paid to nearly 2,000 farmers in Kataram and Malhar mandals of the district.
The farmers lamented that despite making repeated rounds to the offices seeking the paddy bonus since the first week of February, officials had completely ignored their plight. They alleged that on every visit, officials told them that there was an issue with the APGVB bank and that the problem would be resolved and the bonus disbursed shortly, but in vain.
The farmers finally withdrew their protest after the Collector assured them that he would address the problem immediately after the Prajavani programme by the end of the day.
