Israeli regime’s relentless attacks on civilians in the besieged Gaza Strip are “war crimes that are tantamount to genocide”, according to a Canadian Jewish activist.
In an interview with the Press TV website, Rabbi David Mivasair, a prominent Jewish activist based in Ontario, said he “condemns Zionism as a political movement.”
More than 8,000 Palestinians, most of them children and women, have been killed in the indiscriminate Israeli bombing campaign in the besieged Gaza Strip past three weeks.
Israeli warplanes have also targeted hospitals, ambulances and places of worship in the densely populated civilian areas of the coastal strip, especially in northern Gaza.
Protests have been held across the world in recent weeks against the massacre of civilians in the Gaza Strip, with people calling for an immediate ceasefire.
Rabbi Mivasair, a US citizen living in Canada, was among the thousands of Jewish protesters who gathered on Capitol Hill in Washington DC on Oct. 18, wearing a shirt that read: “not in our name.”
Speaking to the Press TV website, he said the world “must boycott and prosecute” Israel for its “ongoing crimes against humanity.”
Mivasair traveled to Washington to participate in the protest organized by the Jewish Voice for Peace and was among more than 300 Jews who were arrested.
After a march of almost 10,000 Jews from the National Mall to the US Congress last week, around 300 of them walked inside the Capitol to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Inside the Capitol, they all displayed their T-shirts that read: “Not in Our Name” on the front and “Jews say cease-fire now” on the back.
The Hamilton-based Jewish activist is an outspoken critic of the Israeli regime and an active member of Independent Jewish Voices Canada.
His blog says he lived in the Jerusalem al-Quds for three years, first in 1971 and most recently in 2001.
