Jagtial: Senior leader T Jeevan Reddy said that, except for the Krishna river, the State government was not interested in utilisation of Godavari and Pranahita water. Moreover, the government has no action plan to utilise the water.

Speaking to reporters at Sarangapur on Monday, Jeevan Reddy opined that the government was least bothered about the completion of the Pranahita project as well as repairs to the Medigadda barrage.

Before the recent budget, he wrote a letter to the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy advising him to allocate adequate funds to take up Medigadda and Annaram repair works and complete the Pranahita project. However, there was no response.

Moreover, a meagre amount of Rs 52 crore was allocated for the Pranahita detailed project report (DPR). So, there was no scope for completion of the project before the next Assembly elections. It requires Rs 10,000 crore to complete the project.

Even after one year of the NDSA report, there was no action plan to take up repair works of the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages.

The previous government had constructed the Kaleshwaram project. Whether it was a construction or maintenance defect, cracks developed on two piers of the Medigadda barrage. This issue is under investigation.

However, it is the right of the people to restore the project since it is public property and was constructed with public money.

More than 50 percent of Telangana depends on the Godavari and Pranahita rivers. If any drought situation develops in the future, not only north Telangana, Hyderabad city would also face a water crisis.
