Former MLA Maganti Gopinath’s daughters injured in ORR accident

Hyderabad:  A late-night road crash on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) near Narsingi left four persons injured, including the two daughters of former Jubilee Hills MLA, the late Maganti Gopinath, here on Sunday.

The two, identified as Akshara Nag (23) and Sisira (19), were travelling along with their friend Abhiram Reddy and driver Arikapudi Durga Sai from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport towards Gachibowli after seeing off a relative when the incident occurred.

According to the police, the accident occurred around 8.50 pm near the Telangana Police Academy (TGPA) junction when their Toyota Fortuner rammed into a DCM van moving ahead. Preliminary investigation indicated that the DCM vehicle came to a sudden halt, reportedly due to a tyre issue, leaving the car driver, who was already driving at speed, with little time to react and avoid the collision.

Meanwhile, the police also suspect overspeeding as a contributing factor in the road crash.

The impact left the front portion of the SUV badly damaged. All four occupants suffered injuries and were immediately shifted to AIG Hospital, Gachibowli, for treatment.

Hospital sources said Akshara sustained relatively serious injuries and is undergoing treatment, while Sisira suffered minor injuries. The condition of all the injured is reported to be stable and they are recovering under the supervision of doctors.

On receiving information, the Narsingi police, along with ORR patrol teams, rushed to the spot, shifted the injured to the hospital, cleared the damaged vehicles with the help of cranes and restored traffic movement on the busy stretch.

A case has been registered under Section 125(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for endangering life due to negligence and is being investigated.

Police officials said that based on further investigation and evidence, necessary action will be taken.
