BRS MLA Vivekananda slams HYDRAA chief over ‘referendum’ remark

Hyderabad: Taking a strong exception to HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath’s remarks terming the Jubilee Hills by-election as a referendum on HYDRAA initiatives, BRS MLA KP Vivekananda questioned his neutrality and accused him of straying into political territory.

He suggested that if the officer had political ambitions, he should enter electoral politics instead of making partisan statements while in service.

“Are you working for the people or for politics?” he asked, while raising the issue in the Assembly on Thursday.

Stressing administrative propriety, the BRS MLA said civil servants were expected to maintain restraint and responsibility, irrespective of which party is in power. He also criticised the alleged publicity-driven actions, where demolition of huts on government land and fencing of large tracts were being projected as major achievements. He questioned claims of saving hundreds of acres, asking whom such assertions were meant to deceive.

BRS MLA objected to HYDRAA’s social media messaging, calling it misleading and politically loaded. He accused the official machinery of exaggerating achievements through social media and media appearances, turning governance into a spectacle.
