Gandhi Hospital performs successful living kidney transplant for young Addagutta resident

Hyderabad: Surgeons at Gandhi Hospital on Thursday announced a successful living-related kidney transplant surgery on a 22-year-old resident of Addagutta, P Sai Mohan, who was suffering from end-stage kidney disease.

The youngster’s father, P Narasimha Rao, donated his kidney, enabling the hospital’s Urology and Nephrology teams to take up the transplant surgery. After seeking treatment at several private hospitals, Sai Mohan eventually required dialysis over the last few months. Following comprehensive medical evaluations conducted by hospital doctors, the family was informed of the necessity for a kidney transplant.

With Sai Mohan’s father stepping forward to donate a kidney, the required pre-operative tests were conducted at Gandhi Hospital under the Aarogyasri scheme, and the transplant surgery was successfully carried out on March 17, doctors said.

Currently, Sai Mohan is in good health with improved kidney function and is leading a normal life without the need for dialysis. His father is also recovering well and remains healthy.

The hospital’s Nephrology department team, including Dr Manjusha Yadla, Dr Srikanth, Dr Srinivas, PGs, Dr Ravichandra, Dr Vinay, and others from the Urology department, were involved in the transplant, Hospital Superintendent Dr Shobha said.
