Jagtial: In the wake of party leader T Jeevan Reddy’s decision to quit the party on March 25, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud swung into action to convince the senior Congress leader to withdraw his decision. The TPCC chief, along with AICC secretary Sachin Sawant and Vemulawada MLA and government whip Adi Srinivas, met Jeevan Reddy at his residence here on Tuesday and held discussions.
Unable to digest the party’s attitude in giving top priority to Jagtial MLA Dr Sanjay Kumar, who joined the Congress after winning on a BRS ticket, Jeevan Reddy has decided to quit the party. In the wake of the senior party leader’s decision, the party high command deployed Ministers D Sridhar Babu and Adluri Laxman Kumar to convince Jeevan Reddy. On March 21, they met Jeevan Reddy and held discussions.
Not convinced with the ministers’ discussions, Jeevan Reddy on Sunday announced that he would quit the party on March 25 by organising a meeting with his followers and party workers in Jagtial. Since only 24 hours are left, the TPCC president personally swung into action and held discussions with the senior party leader at his residence. Later, speaking to reporters, Mahesh Kumar said that it was true that Jeevan Reddy had faced troubles due to some political decisions taken after coming to power in the state.
However, the party was not ready to lose the senior-most leader Jeevan Reddy, who has been associated with the party for the last 43 years. His services are required for the party in the future. The issues discussed with Jeevan Reddy would be informed to the party high command, he said, adding that he was leaving Jagtial with the hope that Jeevan Reddy would not resign from the party.
On the other hand, Jeevan Reddy said that there was no solution to his issue. Neither he nor the Congress leaders approaching him had a solution. Stating that Tuesday might be his last day in the Congress party, he said he would announce his decision on Wednesday. Jeevan Reddy is likely to resign from the Congress party at the party workers’ meeting scheduled to be held in Jagtial on Wednesday..
