Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi discussed bilateral ties and latest developments in the region as well as the consequences of US-Israeli aggression against Iran in a telephone conversation late on Tuesday.
Iran’s top diplomat expounded on the latest aggression and crimes committed by the US and Israel against Iran as the main factor of the current situation in the region, emphasizing the firm determination of Iran to continue defending its national sovereignty and territorial integrity until achieving all its objectives and regretting enemy in committing this heinous and brutal crime.
Araghchi considered the situation in the Strait of Hormuz ‘inseparable’ from the general conditions prevailing in the region, adding, “The insecurity imposed on the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz is due to the military aggression of the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran, and measures and arrangements adopted by Iran are in accordance with international law and in line with defending Iran’s sovereignty and national security, and preventing aggressors from misusing this waterway to commit acts of aggression against Iran.”
Referring to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to the US and Zionist’s vessels and other parties involved in the aggressors’ military aggression against Iran, the Iranian foreign minister stated that passage of vessels belonging to other countries is carried out in coordination with the competent Iranian authorities.
Araghchi strongly condemned the moves taken by the United States and some other countries in the UN Security Council to exert pressure on Iran, noting, “Instead of fulfilling its duty to preserve international peace and security, the UN Security Council has ignored the main cause of the current situation, namely the aggression of the United States and the Israeli regime, and instead of condemning and holding the aggressors accountable, it is blaming Iran, which is legitimately defending itself.”
Iran expects member states of the UN Security Council, especially China and Russia, to prevent US from continuing to abuse the Security Council by adopting a firm stance in condemning the aggression of the United States and the Zionist regime.
The foreign minister of China, for his part, reaffirmed his country’s principled position in condemning the illegal US and Israeli attacks on Iran and violating Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Referring to the good relations between the two countries, Wang Yi stated that Beijing emphasizes the need to stop bullying behavior in the international arena and respect diplomacy and international law to resolve disputes.
