A shocking case of mass dog killings has emerged from Kishtapur village in Jannaram mandal, Mancherial district, where around 100 dogs, both strays and pets, were allegedly poisoned and buried. Police have registered a case against the village Sarpanch Naresh and the panchayat secretary.

Mancherial: In a shocking incident, around 100 dogs, including strays and pets, were allegedly poisoned to death at Kishtapur village in Jannaram mandal about a week ago. The incident came to light after the police registered a case against the village Sarpanch and panchayat secretary for allegedly killing the dogs on Sunday.
Police said a case was registered against Sarpanch Naresh and the village secretary under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for their alleged role in killing the dogs by administering poisonous injections and burying their bodies on March 7 and 8, reportedly to prevent inconvenience to local residents. The case was registered based on a complaint lodged by Goutham Adulapuram, an activist of the Stray Animal Foundation of India, a voluntary organisation based in Karimnagar. Investigations are underway.
The Sarpanch and secretary reportedly eliminated not only stray dogs but also pet dogs by hiring two persons, claiming that stray dogs had been attacking residents at regular intervals. The bodies of the dogs were buried on the banks of the Godavari river on the outskirts of the village. Some residents alerted the activist after realising that their pets had also been killed.
The activist subsequently brought the matter to the notice of officials of the Ramagundam Police Commissionerate. He later approached Director General of Police B Shivadhar Reddy when there was no response to his complaint. The DGP has reportedly instructed local police officials to register a case against those responsible and conduct a detailed probe into the incident.
