Hyderabad braces for week-long relief as IMD forecasts cooler days

Hyderabad: People in Hyderabad and districts of Telangana who witnessed sweltering early summer heat with maximum temperatures consistently hovering between 36 and 40 degrees Celsius, are all set to experience relief with India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad issuing thunderstorms and gradual temperature drop warning till next Friday, March 20, 2026.

The IMD, Hyderabad weather forecast issued on Sunday morning said “There will be a gradual fall by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures during the next 5 days. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at isolated places in Telangana from Sunday,” the IMD Hyderabad forecast said.

From Monday, March 16 onwards to Friday, March 20, multiple locations (in isolated pockets) in Hyderabad and districts are expected to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph, IMD said.

Independent weather trackers have attributed the sudden shift in weather to the prevalence of moisture-laden south-easterly winds and rising thermal instability in the atmosphere. As a result, the present weather forecast of thunderstorms accompanied with drop in temperatures are likely to continue till Sunday, March 22, they said.
