Hyderabad: A man died by suicide after allegedly not being able to bear harassment from his wife, who is an Excise Inspector, at his house in Neredmet on Wednesday.
The victim, identified as Srinivas, a native of Mancherial district, was working in a private firm in the city and was residing in Neredmet.
Police said Srinivas married Jyothi in 2013. After their marriage, he is said to have encouraged her in her career, following which she secured a job as a Sub-Inspector in the Excise Department.
However, family members alleged that disputes began between the couple after she joined the service. Over time, Jyothi reportedly started distancing herself from Srinivas. They further alleged that after she was promoted as a Circle Inspector, she stopped visiting their home and the couple had been living separately for the past four months.
Srinivas’s family also alleged that his wife had filed a dowry harassment case against him and had allegedly used her influence to summon him to the police station and threaten him, which caused him severe mental distress.
Unable to cope with the alleged harassment, Srinivas died by suicide by hanging. Before taking the extreme step, he wrote a suicide note detailing the harassment he faced from his wife.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother, Shivakrishna, the Neredmet police booked a case and are investigating.
