Targeting US bases in region ‘Iran’s right of self-defense'

Speaking in a telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday, President Pezeshkian emphasized that the bases that serve as the origin or support bases for attacking Iran will be targeted within the framework of the legitimate right of self-defense.

During the phone call, Pezeshkian and Shehbaz Sharif exchanged their views on bilateral ties and the latest developments in the region.

Pezeshkian stated that Islamic Republic of Iran was attacked by the US and Israel for the second time in a year in the middle of the nuclear talks.

It is a matter of regret to say that aggressors have exploited and breached the airspace of the neighboring countries in attacking Iran’s infrastructural installations including schools, hospitals, and public places, he said, adding, “Only in one case, the US and Israel bombarded an elementary school in Minab, southern province of Hormozgan, which claimed lives of more than 170 innocent schoolchildren.”

Emphasizing Iran’s defense strategy, Pezeshkian pointed out that Islamic Republic of Iran has no intention of targeting or waging war against regional countries, adding that Iran is targeting only the bases that serve the origin of attack against the country within the framework of the legitimate right of self-defense.

Once the international community and the international organizations fail to look into the main elements of occurrence of this imposed war and aggression against Iran, the current situation will disrupt the international peace and security, Pezeshkian warned.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he hailed the positions of the government, people, political and religious figures of Pakistan in announcing their solidarity with Iranian nation in condemnation of US-Israeli aggression waged against Iran.

The prime minister of Pakistan, for his part, reaffirmed the principled position of his country in condemnation of US-Israeli aggression against Iran and expressed sympathy with people and government of Iran.

Shehbaz Sharif also condoled the martyrdom of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei during the US-Israeli aggression.

Pezeshkian and Sharif also emphasized the significance of expansion of bilateral relations between Tehran and Islamabad as well as continuation of diplomatic talks in the future.
