Medak: Tension prevailed at the Toopran Police Station on Tuesday as relatives of a man and his wife clashed on the premises, forcing the police to resort to a lathi charge to bring the situation under control.
According to police, Jyothi of Allapur in Toopran mandal was married to Udaykiran, a resident of Rampur in Chegunta mandal, a few months ago. However, Jyothi later filed a complaint at the Toopran police station accusing her husband of harassment.
When members of both families arrived at the police station to discuss the issue on Tuesday, the argument between them soon turned violent, with members of both groups attacking each other. Police personnel initially struggled to control the situation as nearly 100 people were involved in the clashes on the police station premises. The police finally resorted to a lathi charge to disperse the groups. Several persons, including the bride and groom, sustained injuries in the clashes.
Meanwhile, the police were preparing to register cases against those involved in the attack. The incident was also seen as a lapse on the part of the Toopran police in allowing such a large number of people to gather on the premises of the police station.
