Revanth Reddy says funds not an issue for Old City works despite citing financial constraints earlier

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy appears to contradict himself on the State’s financial position.

At the Madiga Employees Coordination Committee meeting on Friday, he announced that the State government was facing severe financial constraints and that the coffers were empty. In contrast to his own statement, the Chief Minister assured Old City residents on Sunday that development works would be expedited and that the budget was not an issue.

He formally threw open the rejuvenated “Bum-Rukn-Ud-Dowla” lake here on Sunday.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said there was no dearth of funds for taking up beautification and development works in the Old City.

He stated that the State government was preparing plans to construct new houses for the poor who would lose their homes on the banks of River Musi as part of the Musi Rejuvenation Project. Like the rejuvenation of this lake, the River Musi project would also be taken up and it would boost the State’s night economy, he stressed.

Autorickshaw and taxi drivers, as well as unemployed youth, would get employment opportunities once the night economy picks up after the Musi project, he said.

The Chief Minister appealed to AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi to issue instructions to his party workers to facilitate development works.

“With your one order, everything will fall in place and set things right in the city. Funds required for beautification works will be arranged by the State government, it is your responsibility to get the works done,” Revanth Reddy said.

“Do not think about the budget. I will somehow arrange funds. Even for Bum-Rukn-Ud-Dowla lake rejuvenation, there were no funds but we arranged funds. In future too, flyover, Metro Rail and all others should be made operational in Old City,” he stressed.
