Jagtial: The Mallanna Bonalu jatara was held on a grand scale at the Mallanna Swamy temple in Peddapur village of Metpally mandal on Sunday. Known as one of the largest Bonalu jatara celebrations in the region, devotees offered about 50,000 bonams to the presiding deity.
Before offering ‘naivedyam’ to Mallanna Swamy, devotees made rounds around the temple carrying bonalu on their heads. Apart from jaggery offerings, sheep were also offered to the presiding deity as part of the rituals. Later, the Mallanna Swamy Rathotsavam was conducted on a grand scale. Spiritual possessions of Shiva Parvathis, performances by Potharajulu and traditional dance performances by artistes attracted large numbers of devotees.
