Khammam: Even as the country celebrated Holi, families displaced from their homes at Vinoba Navodaya Colony on Velugumatla Bhoodan lands in Khammam spent the day without celebrations.

The families, who were shifted to the TTDC function hall and Ambedkar Bhavan along with their belongings, are worried about their future as there is no clarity on how they would be rehabilitated, even though Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy assured that houses would be provided to them by March 15. The displaced families complained against Congress leaders and the three district ministers for allegedly failing to address their basic needs at the shelters, where some were forced to live under trees while others turned auto rickshaw trolleys into makeshift homes.

BRS leaders came to the rescue of the families by providing food and drinking water over the past few days. The Puvvada Foundation has been supplying food and drinking water every day to those who lost their homes. BRS city president Pagadala Nagaraju, along with leaders Gundala Krishna, Karnati Krishna, Bachu Vijay Kumar and Mamata Medical College executive committee member Puvvada Naren, have been coordinating food arrangements for the displaced families.

Party district president and MLC Tata Madhusudhan said the Congress government had demolished the houses of the poor and thrown them onto the roads unjustly. The BRS party would stand with the families until they find homes and justice is done to them, he said.
