Medak: Tension prevailed in Medak town as the town police arrested senior BRS leader and former Medak municipal chairman Mallikarjun Goud. A large number of police personnel reached Goud’s residence in the early hours of Saturday and took him into custody.
He was arrested on charges of attempted murder of Medak Congress MLA Mynampally Rohit. The police also registered an SC, ST Atrocity case against him, accusing him of allegedly misbehaving with an SC Congress woman party worker.
As the BRS leader was taken to the Medak police station, a large number of BRS workers gathered at the station in protest. The police had already arrested 13 BRS workers in connection with the case, which BRS leaders termed as false cases.
According to BRS leaders, the workers led by Goud had tried to obstruct the MLA and his associates from distributing cash and liquor to voters during the municipal election campaign. They alleged that the MLA drove his car into BRS workers during the confrontation, injuring at least four of them.
The BRS leaders further alleged that they were the actual victims and that the MLA and his supporters attacked them. They also alleged that the police registered cases against them under the influence of the Congress MLA.
