Hyderabad: An autorickshaw driver allegedly died by suicide after struggling with mounting debts and financial distress, in Ghatkesar on Thursday.
The victim, Sai Kumar (35), a resident of Ramnagar in Ghatkesar, who had a love marriage, is survived by his wife and their one-year-old daughter.
Police said Sai Kumar was earning a livelihood by driving an autorickshaw, but his income was reportedly insufficient to meet household expenses. Financial strain is said to have worsened after he borrowed money from acquaintances. With creditors allegedly pressuring him for repayment, he had become increasingly distressed.
He had also developed a habit of consuming alcohol, which further aggravated the family’s financial problems.
On Thursday morning, he left home in his autorickshaw after taking a saree with him. By afternoon, he reportedly called his wife, younger brother and friends, informing them of his plans to take his own life. He also shared his live location through his mobile phone.
Alarmed by the message, family members and friends rushed to the location at Prabhakar Venture in Kondapur, where they found him hanging from a tree late in the evening.
Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the incident.
