Israeli minister resigns, calling her ministry 'a waste' of money amid war

Galit Distel, former Israeli public diplomacy minister

The Israeli regime’s public diplomacy minister has resigned after suggesting that the regime needs to spend her ministry’s money on its underway war against the Gaza Strip.

“A government ministry is an expensive matter and the people of Israel need every shekel,” Galit Distel wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday.

“Ego aside – the good of Israel comes first, certainly during such a difficult war,” she added.

She was referring to Tel Aviv’s ongoing military campaign against Gaza, which has so far killed upwards of 1,500 Palestinians. The military campaign has seen the regime leveling entire districts and featured its use of banned white phosphorous munitions against densely populated neighborhoods.

Distel, meanwhile, said the regime’s Public Diplomacy Directorate had decided for the ministry of diaspora affairs to be responsible for the public diplomacy activities.

“I respect this decision,” she wrote, saying, “I return to serve you from the Knesset (the Israeli parliament).”

Parting jabs

Firing parting jabs, Distel, meanwhile, said her ministry had been “emptied of the powers it was given in the first place.”

Therefore, she added, “I can only honestly admit that every day it is operated from now on is a waste of public funds…”
