Families of two auto drivers get Rs.2 lakh insurance claim

Siddipet: Former Minister T Harish Rao handed over cheques worth Rs 2 lakh each as insurance claims to the bereaved family members of two auto drivers who died in separate incidents.

Auto driver Sadimela Raju, a resident of Burugupally in Siddipet urban mandal, died in a road accident, while another auto driver, Gydhapaka Ramesh, a resident of Kodandaraopally in Narayanraopet mandal, died due to illness.


Harish Rao had encouraged auto drivers in Siddipet to form an auto drivers’ cooperative society and extended support to them in securing initial loans by pledging his own house. Under the initiative, auto drivers save their earnings in the society and are able to avail loans at affordable interest rates. In addition, each member of the society is provided with insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh.

Harish Rao said that as many as 18 auto drivers’ families have benefited under the insurance scheme so far.
