Harish Rao condemns demolitions in Khammam, terms it police excess

Khammam: BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao on Tuesday strongly condemned the demolition of houses in Vinobha Nagar in Khammam city, alleging that the dwellings built by poor families through bank loans were razed under heavy police deployment.

Rao questioned the large-scale mobilisation of police personnel from multiple districts, asking whether such force was warranted against economically weaker sections. He sought to know the need to create a war like atmosphere and treat locals like extremists. He stated that access to the demolition site was restricted and media entry blocked, terming the exercise undemocratic and high-handed.

“Only those who are committing a crime fear to face the media in broad daylight. Restrictions on media is clear evidence of the government’s intentions,” he added.

The former Minister accused the Congress government including Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao of betraying their promise of providing housing to the poor. He said instead of allotting new houses, existing ones were being demolished without adequate notice or rehabilitation. He said the affected families were left on the streets without any alternative arrangements.

Harish Rao demanded that the demolitions be stopped immediately and that police personnel be withdrawn. He asserted that no land should be cleared without providing proper rehabilitation to the displaced. He declared that the BRS would stand by the victims and fight for justice.
