The Cybercrime Police in Malkajgiri solved four cybercrime cases last week, arresting seven individuals in a nationwide operation. In one case, fraudsters duped a man of Rs 32.36 lakh by posing as women on Facebook and fabricating stories of illness and marriage.

Malkajgiri cybercrime police crack four cases, arrest seven across India

Hyderabad: The Cybercrime Police, Malkajgiri, solved four cybercrime cases last week leading to the arrest of seven persons during a pan-India operation.

In one of the cases, three persons who had duped a man on the pretext of seeking financial help for a medical emergency and marriage after contacting him through Facebook.


According to the police, the victim came into contact with a lady, Sonia on Facebook, who befriended him and sought money within a week citing serious illness, following which the victim transferred money on multiple occasions to the account provided by the online friend.

Later, Sonia introduced the victim to another woman Shruthi, who again conned the man into sending money to her for different reasons. She also deceived the man saying she would marry him.

“Subsequently, the women’s associates Manohar, Srikanth, and Ramcharan called the man and told him that Sonia had passed away. They threatened the victim, saying he was responsible for Sonia’s death and warned that they would get a police case registered. Frightened, the man again transferred some amount to the trio,” said the Malkajgiri cybercrime police.

Throughout the conversations, the fraudsters used pseudo names. In all the money lost Rs. 32.36 lakhs.

After realising he was duped, the man approached the police, who registered a case and arrested three persons Thorthi Shashi, Thorthi Vamshi and Gampala Sravan.
