Hyderabad: RGI Airport on high alert following ‘hijacking’ warning

Hyderabad: Authorities at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad were alerted late Sunday evening by a threat message via email, claiming a potential hijacker on an Air India flight.

The message, sent from an unknown email address, raised concerns about Flight AI951 bound for Dubai.

Around 7:00 PM on Sunday, airport personnel received an email warning about an alleged informant for Pakistan’s ISI who planned to hijack Flight AI951. The email also mentioned the involvement of “many people” at Hyderabad airport with this individual. Airport security responded by identifying and apprehending the mentioned passenger, immediately placing him in an isolation bay along with his hand baggage.

As a precautionary measure, Flight AI951, initially scheduled for departure to Dubai, was directed to a separate isolation bay while authorities assessed the situation.
