Kothagudem: An unidentified vehicle hit and killed a deer on the Vijayawada-Jagdalpur National Highway in the district on Wednesday night.
Large numbers of coal tippers travel on the road continuously to unload coal at the Singareni Collieries Company Limited Rudrampur coal handling plant (RCHP). It was suspected that one of these tippers might have hit the deer while it was crossing the road from the Penagadapa forest area, killing it on the spot.
On receiving information from locals, forest officials reached the spot and seized the deer. It may be noted that accidents have been occurring on the road frequently due to speeding coal tippers, and many people and animals were either killed or injured in such accidents.
