BV Raju Institute students’ ProteinX wins at OpenAI x NxtWave Buildathon

ProteinX, an AI-powered CAD copilot developed by BV Raju Institute of Technology students, won second runner-up at the OpenAI Academy x NxtWave Buildathon during the India AI Impact Summit. The team received Rs 2 lakh and recognition for innovation using LLMs.

BV Raju Institute students’ ProteinX wins at OpenAI x NxtWave Buildathon

Hyderabad: ProteinX, an AI-powered CAD copilot enabling natural-language engineering design, built by students from BV Raju Institute of Technology here, bagged the second runner-up title and Rs 2 lakh at OpenAI Academy x NxtWave Buildathon at the India AI Impact Summit.

Team members Manne Laskmi Vara Prasad, G Ruthwik, P Vishwak secured accolades for the innovation from the jury present at the buildathon finale.


Organised as a flagship pre-summit initiative under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s (MeitY) IndiaAI Mission, the Buildathon brought together more than 70,000 young innovators in 7 states – Delhi, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

As many as 90 teams advanced to the national finale, where they were evaluated by a jury. The review process prioritised the effective use of Large Language Models (LLMs), scalability, and system architecture, ensuring that student innovations translated into practical, deployment-ready solutions.

Rahul Attuluri, CEO and Co-Founder of NxtWave, said, “With the OpenAI Academy x NxtWave Buildathon, we built the country’s largest GenAI challenge for students under the India AI Impact Summit 2026. Bonnie Chatterjee, Global Head of AI Deployment Engineering, OpenAI, said India is rapidly becoming a global epicenter for AI talent.
