The BRS is aiming to retain control of Adilabad, Nirmal, and Kagaznagar municipalities, which it won in both 2014 and 2019. The party, originally formed through the Statehood movement, has maintained a stronghold in these civic bodies, securing chairperson posts in successive elections.

Adilabad: The BRS is determined to retain major municipalities such as Adilabad, Nirmal and Kagaznagar, once bastions of the Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
The party, which originated through a separate Statehood cause, emerged as a major force by securing the Adilabad municipality in elections held in 2019 and 2014 in a row, displaying its domination on the town.
Its nominees won 24 wards out of the total 49 in the municipality in the 2019 elections. The party bagged the post of chairperson, having secured it in the 2014 elections as well.
The BRS, then known as TRS, won Nirmal municipality as well in 2019 and 2014 polls. Its candidates registered victory from 30 wards as against the total 42 wards, reflecting its stronghold. The party got the post of the chairperson of the municipality twice by showing outstanding performance in the two elections.
Similarly, the BRS clinched another major municipality, Kagaznagar with its candidates emerging triumphant in 22 wards out of the total 30 wards of the civic body in 2019 polls. It had earlier won the municipality by outnumbering councilors of the opposition party Congress in 2014 elections, creating a record of sorts.
This time, the party’s top leadership has prevented any internal turmoil by deploying troubleshooters and has ensured cadres maintained coordination among local leaders and strove hard for the victory of the BRS nominees in the municipal polls. It also took measures to bring the party into power again in the three civic bodies with instructions given to leaders to expose the failures of the Congress government.
With an objective to continue the winning streak, local leaders of the party campaigned in support of the BRS nominees riding on unprecedented development witnessed during the regime of the BRS-government. They cited major challenges addressed by the previous government. They vowed to bolster infrastructure and resolve key problems if elected.
While addressing a poll rally, former minister Jogu Ramanna alleged that the Congress and BJP duped the public after being elected. He said that local MLA Payal Shankar of the BJP did not make efforts to establish an engineering college, an affiliate of JNTU-Hyderabad and a nursing college sanctioned by the BRS government in the past. Shankar, he alleged, failed to realise the long-pending dream of people of airport for Adilabad by showing negligence.
