Hyderabad: Panic gripped some parts of Hyderabad on Tuesday morning as residents reported experiencing tremors lasting for three to four seconds, accompanied by a rumbling sound from the ground.

Residents in colonies in and around Gajularamaram, Quthbullapur and Medchal localities reported hearing loud sounds accompanied by ground shaking at around 10 am on Tuesday morning.

However, the Hyderabad-based National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) and National Centre for Seismology in New Delhi, which have the ability to record even a slight tremor across the entire country, are yet to confirm such a development. On its part, the national tsunami warning centre (INCOIS), which also tracks tremors, is yet to confirm tremor activity.

The 24-hour earthquake warning system of National Centre for Seismology, New Delhi, has not so far not issued any alert or confirmation of such development.

Hyderabad is located in seismic zone II, which is categorised as low-risk for earthquakes.
