Hyderabad water board catches tractor driver dumping waste into Gandipet reservoir

Hyderabad: The patrolling teams of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) caught a tractor driver red-handed while he was attempting to dump construction waste into the Gandipet reservoir (Osmansagar). A complaint against the person has been lodged with the Moinabad Police, an official release on Sunday said.

“The patrolling staff identified the tractor, bearing registration number TS07UM9831, on Sunday as it tried to illegally dispose of construction waste into the reservoir at FTL Point Number 425 near Himayat Nagar village,” the statement from the Water Board said, adding that a video while dumping the debris was also shot by the patrolling staff as strong evidence.

During the investigation, the tractor owner-cum-driver, Kummari Gopal (40), admitted to the illegal activity. Based on the complaint by the HMWSSB staff, a criminal case was registered against him at the Moinabad police station, the release said.

“The Water Board would not tolerate any actions that pollute drinking water sources and would take strict legal action against offenders,” the release said.

It appealed to the public to report any illegal dumping around drinking water reservoirs to local authorities or to the water board’s customer care number at 155313. An official made a plea.
