Hyderabad: A 36-year-old man ended his life allegedly after being subjected to cyber blackmail involving morphed nude photographs in Ramnagar on Monday.
The victim, identified as Prem Kumar, was reportedly under severe mental stress after unknown persons threatened him with circulation of fake explicit images.
According to information available, the cyber fraudsters sent morphed nude photos to Prem Kumar and demanded Rs 3,000, warning that if the amount was not paid immediately, similar morphed nude images and videos of his family members would be circulated. Disturbed by the repeated threats, the victim slipped into depression.
Family members said they tried to reassure him and advised against paying money to the blackmailers, explaining that such demands would only continue.
They also urged him to approach the police and file a complaint. However, unable to cope with the psychological pressure, Prem Kumar allegedly died by suicide at his residence.
Based on a complaint lodged by the family, the Chikkadpally police have registered a case and took up an investigation to trace the cyber criminals involved.
Victims are advised to immediately report such incidents to the nearest police station or contact the Cybercrime Helpline at 1930. Officials warned that paying money to blackmailers often leads to further harassment and stress and prompt reporting is the safest course of action.
