Hyderabad: Noted pulmonologist Dr Pradyut Waghray was conferred the prestigious Governor’s Award for Excellence 2025 on Monday by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma. The award, which recognizes his contributions and service in rural health and medical philanthropy, was presented at a ceremony at Lok Bhavan.
Dr Waghray, Professor and Head of Pulmonary Medicine at SVS Medical College, Mahabubnagar, and senior pulmonologist at Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, also serves as Managing Director of Kunal Institute of Medical Specialities.
Dr Waghray hails from a family of physicians. His grandfather, Dr Lt Col Kailashnath Waghray, was the Nizam’s personal physician, the first Director of Medical Services in Andhra Pradesh, and a key founder of Mehdi Nawaz Jung Cancer Hospital and Gandhi Medical College.
Dr Waghray also has a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), London. An honorary pulmonologist to the Indian Armed Forces, Dr Waghray holds a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP, USA), Associate Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (London, UK), and Membership in the British Thoracic Society (UK).
