Thousands fill Amsterdam square, urging Dutch govt. to cut ties with Israel

Thousands of protesters dressed in red gathered at Amsterdam’s Museumplein on Sunday, calling for tougher Dutch action against Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Demonstrators also demanded that the Dutch government cut economic, military and diplomatic ties with Israel.

Footage shows crowds waving Palestinian flags and holding banners reading ‘Jewish solidarity’, ‘Boycott Israel’ and ‘No money for genocide’.

The demonstration was organized by a coalition of 13 human rights and civil society groups, including Oxfam Novib and Save the Children. Organizers said the red clothing symbolized the ‘red line’ they believe the Dutch government has crossed by maintaining ties with Israel.

Sunday’s march was the fourth major ‘Red Line’ demonstration in the Netherlands, with organizers continuing to press the Dutch government for tougher measures against Israel.
