With Vande Bharat chair-car services becoming popular among Hyderabad passengers, attention is turning to the upcoming sleeper variant. The new trains, equipped with sleeping berths and passenger-friendly amenities, are expected to make overnight and long-distance travel more comfortable. While sleeper services are being introduced on more routes across the country, no official announcement has yet been made for Hyderabad.

Hyderabad: With Vande Bharat trains gaining popularity among rail passengers, the focus is now shifting to their sleeper variant, with commuters in the city hoping the new generation trains will soon be introduced from the city.
While chair-car (CC) Vande Bharat services have established themselves on several routes connecting Hyderabad with major cities, their seating-only configuration has made night and long distance journeys less comfortable. The sleeper variant is expected to address this limitation by combining faster travel with overnight accommodation.
Unlike the existing CC trains, the Vande Bharat sleeper will have only sleeping berths, with facilities designed to make long journeys more convenient. Dedicated steps to access upper berths are among its notable features. The fully air-conditioned coaches are expected to offer a more comfortable travel experience.
It is believed there could be considerable demand for sleeper services connecting Hyderabad with Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati. These routes already attract substantial passenger traffic, making them potential candidates for the new services.
Hyderabad currently has Vande Bharat chair-car connectivity from Kacheguda and Secunderabad. Services operate on routes including Kacheguda-Yeshwantpur, Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam and Secunderabad-Tirupati. Other Vande Bharat services also connect Secunderabad with Visakhapatnam and Nagpur.
With sleeper services gradually expanding to more routes, Hyderabad passengers are waiting for their share of the first Vande Bharat sleeper train to be introduced.
However, an official announcement on introducing these trains from Hyderabad is still awaited.
