"No Need To Become Selfish": IPL Winner's Humongous Verdict On KKR

"No Need To Become Selfish": IPL Winner's Humongous Verdict On KKR

Kolkata Knight Riders’ unbeaten run in the IPL 2024 finally came to an end as the Shreyas Iyer-led side was defeated comprehensively by Chennai Super Kings on Monday. The KKR batters, who have been quite impressive in the competition till now, failed to produce their usual performances and the side could only manage to score 137/9 in 20 overs. KKR batters opted for their trademark aggressive approach but with the Chennai pitch assisting the bowlers, Ravindra Jadeja and Tushar Deshpande took two wickets each to hand CSK the advantage. After the match, a fan on social media questioned whether KKR should have changed their approach and someone should have played a more ‘selfish’ knock for the team.

“KKR is full of big hitters and no one played for their personal milestone today. Still I can’t understand why they scored just 137 today. A selfish 70(50) might have taken KKR to 160+ btw,” the fan wrote.

Former New Zealand fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan, who won the IPL title with Mumbai Indians, did not agree with the fan’s analysis and he believed that KKR should stick to the strategy that has worked for them. He asked them to continue with their fearless approach and not resort to a more selfish strategy.

“Sometimes you shoot for the stars and land on the moon. No biggie – their formula has worked so far no need to become selfish,” McClenaghan replied on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Shreyas Iyer deconstructed their first loss of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season which came against five-time champion Chennai Super Kings.

On Monday, Ravindra Jadeja spearheaded the bowling attack for the hosts which laid the foundation for a comprehensive seven-wicket for CSK on a Chepauk track which stayed to its true nature and fell on the slower side.

After losing Philip Salt’s wicket on the very first ball of the innings, KKR managed to finish the powerplay with a score of 56/1.

After that point, KKR struggled to adjust to the surface and toiled hard for putting up runs on the board.

“I personally feel we fell short in terms of assessing the wicket. We were phenomenal in the powerplay but after that, we couldn’t capitalise, we lost consecutive wickets. We weren’t able to assess the conditions as quickly as possible. It completely changed after the powerplay and scoring runs off this wicket wasn’t easy,” Iyer said after the match.
