Hyderabad: The Labour Department has summoned the makers of Telugu film ‘Irumudi’ over a complaint alleging the involvement of a minor girl in the film’s shooting and promotional activities in violation of child labour regulations.
The Joint Commissioner of Labour, Ranga Reddy Zone, has scheduled a meeting with the production management on November 4 at the Anjaiah Karmika Samkshema Bhavan in RTC X Roads.
The notice follows a complaint filed by C Mahesh Babu, founder-president of Jai Lok Satta (Social Justice Forum).
The department has sought documents relating to the District Magistrate’s permission, parental consent, working hours, attendance, educational arrangements and safety measures.
It has also asked the producers to submit records of the minor’s participation in promotional events and details of whether 20 per cent of her remuneration was deposited in a fixed deposit in her name.
The department is expected to examine whether the conversations and language used during the promotional event affected the girl’s dignity and safety.
The producers have also been directed to attend the meeting with the relevant records or send an authorised representative.
