“WHO welcomes the evacuations of people needing treatment for cancer and emphasizes that sustained, orderly, unimpeded and safe medical evacuations of critically injured and sick patients into and via Egypt through the Rafah Border Crossing are essential,” the spokesperson for the UN health agency, Margaret Harris, said in response to a question by Anadolu.
Harris said that the WHO is committed to facilitating the evacuation of patients and their family members as the health status of the patients and security conditions allow.
A total of 27 cancer patients are currently under treatment at a hospital in Turkey’s capital Ankara.
The patients and their 13 attendants were brought to Turkey late Wednesday after passing through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt.
