Hyderabad: The Hussainialam police on Sunday registered a case against several AIMIM workers and the local traders for allegedly obstructing the police and GHMC workers during the anti-encroachments drive initiated on Saturday at Mahbub Chowk.
On Saturday, the GHMC had razed down several roadside shops located around the Mahbub Chowk clock tower near Charminar, terming them as encroachments. However, the local AIMIM party leaders claimed that the space was allotted to them long ago for conducting business.
Tension broke out after AIMIM MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig and other leaders allegedly physically prevented the GHMC workers and argued with the police over the issue. The videos of the skirmishes went viral on social media platforms, following which the police registered a case.
Tension heightened on Sunday afternoon, after the police took into custody Sahil Akbar, AIMIM party Ghansi Bazaar in-charge, at Mahbub Chowk and forced him into a police vehicle. He was shifted to a police station in the city and expected to be produced before a court in evening.
