BRS councilor kidnapped ahead of elections to Khanapur chairperson

Nirmal: A BRS councillor was on Thursday allegedly kidnapped ahead of the election to the governing council of Khanapur municipality slated for April 4.

Family members alleged that Pochavva, a councillor of the BRS, was abducted by unknown persons. They accused the Congress of kidnapping Pochavva in an attempt to win the chairperson post of the 12-member Khanapur municipality. They requested the police to trace the councillor and take stern action against those who abducted her.

The BRS won four wards, falling three short of the required majority. It made moves to secure the civic body, with three councillors from the Congress extending support to it. However, elections to the governing council were postponed in the past due to a lack of quorum at special meetings.

The Telangana Election Commission on March 31 announced that elections for chairperson and vice-chairperson of Khanapur and Kyathanpalli would be held on April 4.
