The Telangana government has imposed a 60-day ban on the sale, distribution, manufacture and use of the pesticide Paraquat citing concerns over its adverse effects on human health and animals, invoking provisions of the Insecticides Act, 1968.

Hyderabad: The Agriculture and Cooperation Department has issued a notification imposing a 60-day ban on chemical pesticide Paraquat in Telangana.
“The sale/stock/distribution/manufacturing/use of Paraquat and its derivatives/formulations is hereby banned in the State of Telangana for a period of 60-days with immediate effect from the issue of this order,” the notification, which was issued on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, said.
On receipt of feedback and reports from various sources on the adverse effect of chemical pesticide, Paraquat and its derivatives/formulations in human health and animals and keeping in view of Public Health and Farmers Safety, and in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 27 of the Insecticides Act, 1968, the State government has hereby made the order,” the notification said.
