GHMC sets record with Rs 2,501 crore property tax collection

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has set a new record by collecting Rs 2,501.25 crore in property tax for the 2025-26 financial year, marking the highest collection in the Corporation’s history.

According to an official release, GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan on Tuesday said that the record was achieved as the deadline for the financial year closed at 8 pm on March 31.

A significant portion of this success, Rs 548 crore, was collected between December 2025 and March 2026 following the implementation of the government’s One-Time Scheme (OTS).

Following the record-breaking year, the Commissioner urged taxpayers to take advantage of the Early Bird Scheme for the upcoming 2026-27 financial year.

Property owners who pay their full tax for the new year during the month of April will receive a 5 percent discount. The Commissioner clarified that this incentive applies only to the current year’s tax and does not cover arrears from previous years. He encouraged residents to pay early to benefit from the government-provided rebate.
