Maheshwari Chauhan narrowly misses final in ISSF World Cup skeet

Hyderabad: Olympian Maheshwari Chauhan came the closest to securing a spot in the final as the Indian shooters missed out on a top-eight finish in the skeet event of the ISSF World Cup Shotgun being held at the Club Tangérois de Tir in Tangier, Morocco.

After finishing the first day of qualification with a score of 69 out of 75, Maheshwari shot 23 and 21 in the fourth and fifth series for a final score of 113, two short of the 115 scored by Reem Ghanem Al-Sharshani of Qatar, who took the final qualifying spot.


Darshana Rathore, who shot a perfect 25 in the final series, finished in 19th place, just below Maheshwari, with a score of 112. Her younger sibling, Yashasvi Rathore, shot 22 and 24 in the final rounds to finish in 23rd place with a score of 110. Areeba Khan and Mansi Raghuwanshi, who were competing for ranking points, finished the competition with scores of 112 each.

In the men’s category, Parampal Singh Guron finished as the best-placed among Indian shooters in 26th place with a score of 117 after shooting 23 and 24 in the last two series respectively. Jyotiradiya Singh Sisodiya finished 62nd with a score of 108, followed by Man Singh, who finished with a score of 105 in 65th place. Sukhbir Singh Harika and Harmehar Singh Lally, competing for ranking points, scored 113 and 102 respectively.

The trap shooters will be in action from Tuesday.
