Sankara Eye Hospital launches glaucoma awareness and screening drive in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Sankara Eye Hospital, Hyderabad, conducted a glaucoma awareness and screening initiative aimed at early detection and patient education on one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness. The programme witnessed strong participation with patients coming from across the city for consultations, screening, and counselling sessions.

In addition to screening, the initiative also focused on patient education. The initiative was aimed at helping individuals understand when to suspect glaucoma, the importance of periodic eye examinations, and the available treatment options.

Addressing patients during the initiative, Dr Sriram Simakurthy, Chief Medical Officer, Sankara Eye Hospital, Hyderabad, said, ‘Glaucoma-related vision loss is irreversible, but it is largely preventable with early diagnosis and consistent management. In India, a large proportion of patients remain undiagnosed until advanced stages, which significantly impacts outcomes”.
