Hyderabad: BRS MLAs and MLCs staged a protest at Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial at Gun Park on Monday demanding immediate release of pending fee reimbursement arrears. They accused the Congress government of delaying payments, forcing poor students to discontinue their studies.
Holding placards with slogans against the government, the BRS legislators marched towards the Assembly during the ongoing Budget Session. However, the marshals stopped them near the main gate and confiscated the placards as they attempted to proceed with the rally.
Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council S Madhusudhana Chary accused the Congress government of neglecting student welfare and delaying reimbursements worth about Rs 12,000 crore. He said the delay was affecting SC, ST and BC students the most. He reminded that the previous BRS government continued the fee reimbursement scheme with priority, but the present Congress regime made higher education difficult for poor families.
Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar rejected an adjournment motion by the BRS seeking discussion on fee reimbursement.
