This year’s rankings highlighted the university’s sustained excellence in seven subjects – Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences – placing its key disciplines among the world’s elite.

The subject-wise global ranks are – Linguistics (151-200), English Language and Literature (251-300), Sociology (251-300), Political Science (301-400), Chemistry (401-450), Economics and Econometrics (501-550) and Biological Sciences (651-700).

The rankings, released by global higher education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds on Wednesday, provide independent comparative analysis on the performance of more than 18,300 individual university programmes, taken by students at more than 1700 universities in 100 locations around the world, across 55 academic disciplines.

UoH Vice Chancellor in-charge Prof. J Anuradha expressed her pride in the university’s consistency while emphasizing a forward-looking strategy.

“We are thrilled to see the University consistently being featured in the QS World Rankings by Subject. However, we are not resting on our laurels. We aim to expand our presence by adding more subjects, and we are committed to working tirelessly to make that happen,” she said.

According to the official 2026 data, India has 529 programmes ranked across 99 institutions.

The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) uses five rigorous metrics to determine these global standings, ensuring a holistic view of institutional impact. These include Academic Reputation (drawn from 240,000 experts), Employer Reputation, Citations per Paper, H-Index, and the International Research Network (IRN), which assesses the strength of cross-border scientific collaboration.
