BRS walks out of Telangana Assembly over farm loan waiver issue

Hyderabad: The BRS staged a walkout from the Assembly on Wednesday night, accusing the government of failing to honour its promises on farm loan waiver and for responding to opposition questions with counter-attacks.

Announcing the walkout, BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao said the opposition tried to cooperate with the government by raising public issues and offering suggestions, but the Ministers were only criticising the previous BRS regime instead of giving clear replies.

He said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy promised in public meetings that loans up to Rs 2 lakh would be waived if farmers cleared the remaining amount, but many farmers who repaid loans by borrowing elsewhere were still waiting for the waiver.

Harish Rao said statements by the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister on the issue were contradictory, and the latest claim that all eligible loans were waived is highly objectionable.
