Adilabad cooperative society chairman threatened, four arrested for extortion

Four members of an Adilabad cooperative society were arrested for allegedly threatening chairman Konduri Rakender and manager Ragam Ramesh over loan repayments. The accused reportedly extorted Rs 20,000 on three occasions under the banner of tribal rights group Tudum Debba.

Adilabad cooperative society chairman threatened, four arrested for extortion

Adilabad: Four persons were arrested on the charges of threatening and extortion from the chairman of a cooperative society here on Friday. Adilabad II town Inspector K Nagaraju, in a statement said that Salam Varun, Vetti Manoj, Thumram Prabhat Rao and Durwa Subhash, were apprehended for their role in threatening and extortion of money from chairman Konduri Rakender and manager Ragam Ramesh.

Police said that the four, members of the society availed loans between Rs 25,000 and Rs 1 lakh from the financial institution, but threatened to stage dharnas under the aegis of Tudum Debba, a tribal rights organisation against the chairman and manager for asking them to repay the loan amount. The four extracted Rs 20,000 thrice from the two, Nagaraju stated.
