French President Emmanuel Macron announced today the dispatch of 12 warships to the Strait of Hormuz, but hours later, Ali Larijani, the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, strongly rejected the Paris plan as nonsense.
Macron said he would dispatch a dozen of warships, including the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier group, to the Mediterranean, the Red Sea, and possibly the Strait of Hormuz, claiming that this action is being taken to provide defensive support to allies in the midst of a regional war.
In reaction, Iran’s Larijani wrote in a post on X “It is unlikely that security will be restored to the Strait of Hormuz with the flames of war that America and Israel have ignited in the region. Security will not be resotred there by those who themselves played a role in supporting the war.”
Larijani emphasized that as long as the war continues, one cannot expect security to return to the strategic waterway.
