A farmer died after stepping on an electric trap allegedly set up to deter wild boars in a maize field in Mogilicherla village of Warangal district, triggering protests by family members who demanded compensation and action against the neighbouring farmer.

Warangal: Tension prevailed here on Tuesday as family members and relatives of a farmer staged protests after he was electrocuted in a maize field at Mogilicherla village of Geesukonda mandal in the district.
According to family members, Gadam Srinivas (47) suffered an electric shock and died on the spot after he accidentally stepped on electric traps allegedly set up by a neighbouring farmer, Bandari Sambaiah, to keep away wild boars. His death in the morning led to protests until evening at the Enumamula Police Station and at Reddypalem junction by family members who demanded compensation from Sambaiah. The protestors also demanded that the police take action against Sambaiah for setting up electric snares, which are illegal.
The protesting family members did not allow the postmortem of the body, which was kept at Sambaiah’s residence in Mogilicherla. Venkatesh reached the police station and asked the family members to shift the body to MGM Hospital for autopsy first, after which talks regarding compensation could be held.
When reports last came in, village elders, in the presence of the police, were holding talks with Sambaiah, who had taken shelter at the police station following the incident.
The Enumamula police registered a case in connection with the incident.
