Hyderabad: BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao said women were playing an equal role in the development of society and the nation. He extended greetings to women on the occasion of International Women’s Day on Sunday and called for greater efforts for greater women empowerment.

In his message, the former Chief Minister described women as creators of social wealth and said their contribution was essential for the progress of families, society and the country. He said women, who shoulder the responsibility of sustaining human life, deserved greater opportunities in all fields.

He recalled the role played by women in the Telangana statehood movement and in the State’s development after its formation. He also referred to welfare and empowerment programmes implemented during the decade-long BRS rule. He asserted that the governments must continue to work towards strengthening women’s empowerment.

BRS working president KT Rama Rao urged people to treat women well as they are humans, not because they are mothers, sisters and daughters.

“The day we accept that women are equally human and they deserve respect, dignity like every one of us, the world will surely be a better place,” he remarked.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, he called upon every man to promise to become better men to ensure that women do not have to fight for basic rights. He also wished that women grow stronger and thrive.
