Hyderabad: The city has witnessed a series of fire accidents in shops, scrap godowns and commercial establishments over the last few days, with officials attributing the incidents to rising temperatures and electrical issues as summer sets in.

On Thursday, a major blaze was reported at a plywood godown in Katedan, destroying property worth lakhs.

Also, in one of the recent incidents, a major fire broke out late at night in a row of roadside furniture shops at Pragathi Nagar near Bachupally, destroying several shops and causing heavy property loss. Firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after hours of effort.

Another incident was reported in Jubilee Hills, where a fire broke out in a commercial building undergoing renovation. The officials suspect the sparks from welding work could have triggered the blaze, which was quickly contained by fire personnel.

Earlier, a scrap godown in Budwel area under Rajendranagar police limits also caught fire, sending thick smoke into the air. Though no casualties were reported, property worth several lakhs was gutted in the raging blaze.

Fire Department officials say fire incidents usually increase during summer due to a possible short circuit from overheating of electrical systems and the presence of highly flammable materials such as wood, plastic and foam in shops and warehouses.

Business owners were advised to check sanctioned electrical loads, ensure proper wiring, avoid overloading circuits and also clear unused combustible materials that could fuel a blaze.
