Hyderabad: The Amberpet Police on Monday arrested four alleged illegal money lenders in connection with the suicide of three members of a family at Bapu Nagar, which was reported last week.

The four suspects were identified as Mohd Wasi Uz Zaman alias Irfan, P Rajasekhara Reddy, Mohd Nawaz, and Syed Majeed Hyder, all from Hyderabad.

The victims, identified as Kadgekar Ramraj (54), his wife Madhavi, and their son Shashank Raj, were found dead at their residence on February 24. Police said Ramraj and his son died by hanging, while Madhavi was found lifeless on a bed. A complaint was lodged by the couple’s daughter after she was alerted by a relative.

During investigation, suicide notes were recovered, allegedly blaming financiers for harassment over loan repayments. The family had reportedly borrowed around Rs 57 lakh to run food outlets at Mallapur and Chakripuram.

Police said the suspects had charged exorbitant interest, collected blank cheques and property documents as security and repeatedly threatened the family.

“Call data records showed the suspects had contacted the victims hours before the deaths, demanding repayment. Based on evidence, the case was altered to abetment of suicide under Section 108 of the BNS,” said a senior police official.

Police seized blank cheques, promissory notes, agreements, land documents and mobile phones allegedly used to threaten the victims. All four have been remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is ongoing.
